Publishing in Plain Text: Sphinx and MyST Markdown#
Sphinx is my preferred software when it comes to creating text publications. The Sphinx toolchain enables the creation of different output formats (PDF, ePub, HTML, …) based on a single source code base. Thanks to the LaTeX backend, it is well suited for print publications. Together with the version management software Git and platforms like GitLab or Gitea, it can be expanded into an extensive collaboration system for text creation.
Sphinx uses either reStructuredText or an extension of the very popular Markdown format as a source format thus making ist interoperable with a vast landscape of Markdown enabled tools.
